M.A.K.E.R.S. [Making And Knowledge Exchange for Repair & Sustainability] – Royal Academy of Engineering – Diversity Impact Programme funding via UWE. Baggator will disperse funds and provide the accounting for two activities.

  • Sensor Workshop – UWE students and technicians will run a repair workshop to bring sensors that have ‘failed’ in the community back into use and develop a troubleshooting guide for future use. The problem is the sensors themselves and the websites they connect to are fit for purpose. Unfortunately, the connection is via domestic wifi at the home where the sensors are hosted. Any weakness in the wifi signal or fluctuation in the service can result in a sensor dropping out. On-site, volunteers are not technically competent to assess the problem and try to resolve it by trial and error.

  • Mosque Model – As part of the Bringing Women into Engineering programme, Young Women from Easton Jamia Mosque will work with UWE technicians to create a 3D-printed model of the newly extended Easton Jamia Mosque. This will require the Young Women to manipulate the Architectural Drawings used to construct the Mosque, create the 3D model and then print it on UWE Engineering Dept printers in parts that can be painted and assembled. The model will be used in schools as part of the mosque’s outreach and community cohesion programme. To do this, the Young women will be supported by a local Female Muslim Street Artist and UWE engineers.
